PROGRAMMES
ProBono.Org aims to increase access to justice by making legal expertise available to deserving cases. We screen and match cases for legal professionals, and run topic specific legal clinics and outreach projects with the assistance of a number of law firms. We run practical seminars and training courses for attorneys, advocates, NGOs and government. ProBono.Org takes on cases that:
- are in the public interest; or
- increase access to justice; and
- have merit; and
- where the client is unable to afford commercial legal fees.
ProBono.Org facilitates a free legal service to the poor from volunteer private lawyers and clients can call our offices to make an appointment to consult on any general legal matter.
In addition to general legal assistance, ProBono.Org provides specialised legal services in three programme areas:

ProBono.Org’s Refugee Legal Clinic is one of the few places for refugees and asylum seekers to turn for legal assistance in Johannesburg. Staffed on a rotating basis by volunteer private attorneys, most of the matters require advice and are dealt with immediately.
COMPETITION LAW
ProBono.Org is starting to take matters referred to it from the Competition Tribunal and Competition Commission. It will assist where the matter is in the public interest and is brought by a small firm or individual. These may be cases where the complainants have prohibite
d practice cases which the Competition Commission does not refer, or matters where clients wish to engage in merger cases as intervenors.
INNER CITY HOUSING
ProBono.Org is starting an inner city housing clinic from October this year. The clinic will be staffed by volunteer lawyers who will assist people in the inner city with advice relating to their housing situation.
